This Egg Separator Just Made My Life Much Easier (Was I the Only One Who Didn’t Know This Cooking Hack?)

Am I the only one who didn’t know? I’ve been separating my egg whites with the egg shell (or a fork) all of my adult like; picking out little bits of egg shell or feeling like I left half the egg white in the shell.

I’m embarrassed to admit that I must have been one of the few people left on the planet that didn’t know egg separators exist.

It wasn’t until I saw a friend of mine using one while baking that I thought to myself “no more frustrating tossing the egg yoke back and forth between shells and letting the egg white drip everywhere, including my hands…”

This egg-separator let’s me simply drop the egg white and egg yolk into the separator, then tilt and let the egg white drain out (see below).

Is this product easy to use?

Yes, this egg separator is very easy to use. I just crack the egg, drop the goods into the separator, tip, and let the egg white begin to drain out.

To be clear, some eggs separate easier than others. Many times I have to take a fork and help the egg-white flow through the hole (you can see this in the video I posted earlier in the article).

Usually for the stubborn eggs, once I get the egg white flowing, then the rest of the egg white comes pouring through the hole.

What are the benefits of this egg separator?

This egg separator simply speeds up the cooking process and eliminates one of the messier parts of the process (at least for me).

Are there other egg separators?

Yes, as I mentioned earlier, my friend had a more traditional type of egg-white separator. This is the type of egg separator my friend uses (paid affiliate link takes you to Amazon.com).

I just chose the chicken-shaped one because I thought it was adorable and would fit in with my farmhouse perfectly.

What’s my verdict?

Overall, this egg separator does simplify the process. It is easy to drop the egg parts into the separator then tilt to drain the egg white out.

As I mentioned earlier, I have found that some eggs can be a bit stubborn (thicker consistency) and you have to use a fork to help start the egg-white through the hole.

Also, this separator is designed to only handle one egg at a time. For me, that’s not a major issue, but for some it may be.

I love the look and usefulness of this separator. It’s very affordable, but if you are on a tight budget, it might make more sense just to stick with using the egg shells to separate the egg yolk and egg white.

Is it a must buy? No. Does it simplify the egg-separating process? Yes.
